The salaries of major TV actors are not always common knowledge, although a few casts are open about how much they make. Regardless, this week, a new report opened up that explained just how much the leads of major shows make. Of course, among those reported earnings, we are hyper excited to share with you just how much the leads on Game of Thrones reportedly make. It's a whopping number.
According to reports, most of the leads on Game of Thrones have negotiated at this point to earn salaries of $500,000 an episode. Impressive, right? Per Variety, the leads making that much include Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage. There's no telling exactly how much secondary leads like Maisie Williams or Sophie Turner make, but we're pretty certain that it's a pretty high number, as well.
Game of Thrones has been a notoriously expensive show to shoot, and now that the series is more popular, the major cast members have more leverage with their salaries. Earlier reports indicated that during previous seasons the major cast members only made around 300k per episode. Over time, shows become more and more expensive to produce, mostly due to the raises given to the cast and crew. With that in mind, maybe it's a good thing for HBO that Game of Thrones will be ending sooner rather than later... just kidding.
We all know HBO wishes the show would make it all the way to Season 10, but right now it is believed we will get two more seasons, albeit both will be shortened. It's hard to believe the series could be reaching an end, and in some ways the cast and crew will certainly miss the steady gig that put a lot of money into their pockets. In other ways, filming Game of Thrones is reportedly exhausting,
Obviously, the Game of Thrones cast should have no shortage of other projects once the series ends. Many of them have shot movies or taken TV guest stints in the interim between seasons of the fantasy drama. Maisie Williams has popped up in Doctor Who and other projects for instance, and Emilia Clarke has headlined major movies like Me Before You and Terminator Genisys. Just yesterday, we reported Kit Harington is in talks for a short series called Gunpoweder. So, there are plenty of roles out there for the actors. The real question is: Will those roles pay nearly as well? On the bright side, this isn't a question the leads will really have to consider for a few more seasons.
