4 Big Moments From The New Defenders Trailer

This weekend is a particularly exciting one for hardcore TV and film fans. San Diego Comic-Con brings tons of new trailers, stills, and footage from popular franchises, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And the latest trailer to come from the MCU is for Netflix's highly anticipated miniseries The Defenders, which will unite the heroes and supporting characters from all four of the streaming service's Marvel shows. The latest trailer is chock full of action, while also revealing a bit more into the show's overall narrative. Here are the four biggest moments from the trailer.

Elektra and Alexandra

Elektra Is Working For Sigourney Weaver

At the end of Daredevil's second season, Matt Murdock's love interest/frenemy Elektra gave her life during the climactic battle on the rooftop. But in the final moments of the finale, we saw that her body was recovered by the The Hand and placed into a chamber meant to restore her life. It was originally unclear why this occurred, although now it appears that it was at the behest of Sigourney Weaver's new villain Alexandra. Elektra is working for the big bad of The Defenders, and she will no doubt put up quite a fight against both Daredevil and Iron Fist.

Iron Fist and Daredevil fighting

Daredevil And Iron Fist Fighting

While The Defenders will unite the heroes of Netflix's Marvel series, it's not going to be all peaches and cream. There are four very big and equally flawed personalities at play here, so it makes sense that they'll be butting heads a fair amount. One brief clip from the new Defenders trailer shows Daredevil and Iron Fist coming to blows, which is no doubt going to be a thrilling quarrel. The two share very similar fighting styles, so they're the perfect match for a little infighting. And to top it off, it looks like Jessica Jones will be the one to step in and break them up.

Claire Temple

Claire Temple

One major character from Marvel's Netflix shows that has been noticeably missing from The Defenders' marketing campaign has been Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple. Claire is essentially the Nick Fury of the Marvel's TV universe, the connecting thread that has been in all four shows. But she hasn't been all that present in the footage we've seen so far from the miniseries. Claire did show up for a brief moment or two in this recent trailer, and she looks a little worse for the wear. Claire always finds herself in the middle of the action between superpowered New Yorkers, and The Defenders will be no different. But perhaps she'll get one step closer to becoming a superhero persona herself. Fingers crossed.

The Defenders underground

The Defenders Unite In An Underground Battle

Without a doubt, the most exciting aspect of the new Defenders trailer is the epic battle in some sort of mine or underground quarry. In it, we see all four Defenders looking like total badasses. Plus, Daredevil is wearing his suit, and it looks like Iron Fist may have finally settled in one his understated version of his costume, tattoo out and all. We see the four heroes kicking ass and taking names, and Elektra even shows up to complicate things further. This sequence will no doubt be a highlight of the entire series, and I can't wait to watch it in full when the series premieres next month. You can check out the epic Comic-Con trailer below.

The entire series will hit Netflix on August 18th. Start getting excited. If the rest of the series is as riveting as this, we're all going to be in for a big treat.
