The journey toward Blue Bloods actor Nick Cordero's hoped-for recovery has been filled with numerous setbacks since he was first diagnosed and hospitalized in March amid the pandemic. Unfortunately, after fighting a long, tough battle with COVID-19, Cordero has now succumb to complications from the virus at the age of 41.

Nick Cordero passed away on Sunday morning after hospitalization in March for COVID-19. Cordero had weeks of treatments, hopeful updates from his wife, Amanda Kloots, and the prayers and well-wishes of many who hoped he'd pull through. Kloots delivered the news via Instagram and shared her husband's final moments in the first part of her post.

God has another angel in heaven now. My darling husband passed away this morning. He was surrounded in love by his family, singing and praying as he gently left this earth.I am in disbelief and hurting everywhere. My heart is broken as I cannot imagine our lives without him.

As those who've been following Nick Cordero's story will likely remember, the actor was originally misdiagnosed with pneumonia when he first sought treatment, which delayed him receiving proper care for a time, before he was eventually admitted to the ICU and put on oxygen while unconscious. In those early days, doctors lost his pulse and had to resuscitate Cordero, and also had to put on dialysis to help his kidneys function.

It wasn't long before the Tony Award nominee and Broadway star of shows such as Rock of Ages, Bullets Over Broadway, and A Bronx Tale had to be put into a medically induced coma and needed to have his right leg amputated because of blood flow issues there, as well as doctors needing to put a temporary pacemaker into his heart and giving him a feeding tube.

Despite the constant support of Amanda Kloots, his family, friends, and many fans, Nick Cordero's health troubles didn't end there. Cordero was found to have had a fungus on his lungs, which led to the realization that he had holes in them, and more than one procedure to clean the organs out. It wasn't until mid-May that Cordero was able to fight his way back to consciousness and come out of his coma, but everything he had been through by that point had left him so weak that, while he was able to see, hear and respond to commands, he couldn't talk or move his head from side to side. In her full Instagram post, Amanda Kloots expressed thanks to all those that reached out and helped professionally or through well wishes.

Even though he did, eventually, test negative for COVID-19, Nick Cordero still had a series of setbacks which punctuated his progress toward recovery. These included continued procedures to clean his lungs and help him breathe better on his own, having a stem cell treatment (which led to some positive signs) and some brief consideration of trying for a lung transplant, with the decision being made that he was still too weak to survive such an operation.

Our thoughts are with Amanda Kloots, their young son, Elvis, and the rest of Nick Cordero's friends and family during this difficult time.
