HBO announced today that they’ve picked up a new series by Tiny Furniture’s Lena Dunham. Judd Apatow is on board to executive produce.

Set to begin shooting in the spring, Girls is a comedy series which was created by and will star Lena Dunham. Dunham starred in, wrote and directed the award-nominated film Tiny Furniture. The series is a “comic look at the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of girls in their 20’s." Jemima Kirke (Tiny Furniture), Allison Williams (American Dreams), Adam Driver (HBO’s You Don’t Know Jack) and Zosia Mamet (Parenthood, Mad Men) are among the cast.

“Lena Dunham quickly established herself as an important young talent with her first feature film,” said HBO Entertainment President Sue Naegle. “We are thrilled to team up with her and fellow executive producers Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner for this exciting project.”

Apatow’s past TV projects include Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared. Konner created the short-lived series Help Me Help You and also wrote an episode of Undeclared.
