ABC is working hard to maximize their advertising revenue by making their most popular shows even longer! When May rolls around, ABC wants you to stay on their station longer each night during sweeps. ABC announced today that the season finales of “Lost”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Desperate Housewives”, “Boston Legal”, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”, “America’s Funniest Home Videos”, and “Alias” will all be two hours long.

Seriously, this is borderline on being ridiculous. Do we really need a two hour finale of “Funniest Home Videos”? How many extra shots to the groin will America have to endure to cater to ABC’s greed? It’s possible that this move could backfire with the amount of scheduling changes that will be needed. “Grey’s Anatomy”finale will air over two nights (May 14 and 15). "Boston Legal" will end its season on May 16. May 21st will bring us the finales of “Extreme Makeover: Ty Edition” and “Desperate Housewives”. Four straight hours of people who spend way too much time on their hair!

The most curious move concerns “Alias”. Sidney Bristow returns next month on Wednesday but will move to Monday n May 22 for its series finale. Jeez, does that sound a bit odd to you? “Lost” will sign off for the year on Wednesday May 24. I see that they do not want to disturb “Lost” but how about just ending “Alias” a week earlier or a week later? How about showing another “Lost” rerun? Lord knows they enjoy that.

While everyone else is watching TV tonight, I’ll be busying making a flow chart to figure out all the schedule changes.
