Joining the AMC primetime line-up at some point in 2012 is an unscripted work-place dramedy called JJK Security. If the mentioned mixed-genre wasn’t enough to grab your attention, this project is being brought to us by Left/Right’s Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver (This American Life, Mob Wives).

As stated, AMC’s using the words “unscripted,” and “dramedy,” along with “non-fiction” to describe this new series. The show is set to follow “the slightly off-kilter characters who work at a small, family-owned private security company located in rural Georgia – a one-stop shop for services that range from private investigations to personal protection to neighborhood patrols, and everything in between.”

A quick google search for the company landed me at JJKSecurity.com, which is, in fact, set up in North Georgia, Southeast TN, and Atlanta. Assuming this is the company being showcased in the series, you can get a better look at what goes on there at their site.

Interestingly enough, while this sounds like a docu-series, AMC’s selling it as an unscripted dramedy, inspired by films by the Coen Brothers, Christopher Guest and Robert Altman. AMC’s Joel Stillerman commented on the content, stating:

“When we first saw the tape of JJK we were speechless. It is unlike anything we have ever seen before - a true original. The characters are incredibly rich and compelling; and Left/Right found a way to tell the story in an honest, funny, and nuanced way. In non-fiction series, it is incredibly hard to find great characters and great story, and this is truly both,”

Honest, funny and nuanced are three truly positive words to describe a show. I’ll be interesting to see if JJK Security lives up to that when the series premieres. Currently, the show will consist of eight half-hour episodes, which are currently set to air at some point during the third quarter in 2012.
