The second half of the third season of Boardwalk Empire has been pretty spectacular and this weekend it all comes to a head. After developing several disparate threads over the entire year, the prohibition set drama has skillfully brought most of the many story lines and characters back together for the twelfth episode which looks like one of the most intense yet. Here's an extra-long and incredibly exciting preview for Sunday's "Margate Sands"...

I don't even know where to begin. Maybe the odd Inception inspired music? The most exciting image in the entire preview has to be Richard's face/mask covered in blood as he's pointing the rifle right into the camera. I hope at that moment we're in the point of view of Gillian, right before he, uh, claims ownership of Tommy. I'm also pretty excited for all the scenes showing Nucky and Eli creeping around with shotguns as well as shots of what seems to be beef between Capone and Chalky's men.

Not to mention, well, all the general mayhem that seems to be occurring all over Atlantic City and parts of New York. And If the trailer doesn't look violent enough, the recently hired Dennis Lehane (author or several popular pulp novels as well as a writer on The Wire) referred to "Margate Sands" as a "blood bath." I can't wait!

The final episode of the third season of Boardwalk Empire airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO. Created by Terence Winter, the series stars Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Shea Whigham, Vincent Piazza, and Michael Stuhlbarg.
