Breaking Bad returns for the first half of Season 5 in just over a week. In anticipation of the big premiere, AMC released a new video, which features series creator Vince Gilligan and the cast talking about the new season. No major spoilers are revealed (unless you're not caught up on Season 4!) but we do get a glimpse at what's ahead.
Gilligan does have some very interesting things to say about the direction Walt's life is taking as the series moves forward. With Gus gone, Walt is moving up in the world. "What is a world like where he is not at death's door at every turn," Gilligan ponders in the video below. "But is in fact ascendant and triumphant. That's what you're gonna see in Season 5."
"From Season 4 to Season 5, he's become Heisenberg," Bryan Cranston says of his character Walt. "He enjoys it. He's now good at it. He's developed a skill set for this type of lifestyle. He lives off the adrenaline. That's his drug."
That's a great way of putting it. And while both Gilligan and Cranston's comments seem to suggest that things are looking up for Walt, I can't help but wonder if his arrival at the top means he's on the brink of the ultimate fall. Maybe that's where Hank comes in. Hank's story has been a wild one too. Will he get his man at long last? Of everything that's said in this video, Anna Gunn's words "bigger, badder, darker" ring the loudest.
"Breaking Bad Season 5. It's gonna be crazy," Aaron Paul.
Breaking Bad premieres Sunday, July 15 at 10/9c on AMC.
