Californication's Pamela Adlon To Guest Star On Parenthood

Unfortunately, we didn't see any Pamela Adlon appearances in the most recent season of Louie. But we should expect to see her back as Marcy Runkle in Californication come January, and now it looks like she'll be ruffling feathers among the Braverman clan later this season on Parenthood.
TVLine reports that Adlon is headed to Parenthood, serving as the "neighbor from hell" to Crosby and Adam. Adlon has been cast to play a character named Marlana, who's described as "acerbic and rude." She'll be moving into the building next door to the Luncheonette, the music studio brothers Crosby and Adam run together. Maybe she wasn't aware of the kind of noise that comes out of a music studio when she paid "a fortune" for the building next door but apparently it's a problem for her because she eventually files a complaint with the city.
Known for her voice work (King of the Hill, Thundercats and Beavis and Butt-Head are among her credits), Adlon is one of the funnier reasons to watch Californication, and she brought some of that humor to her more understated role in Louie in the first two seasons. While she's only set to appear in two episodes of Parenthood, it's definitely something to look forward to. Adlon's probably more associated with funny roles and Parenthood falls firmly in the drama category, however Ray Romano's character Hank is current evidence that the NBC series knows exactly how to use a funny actor. There are traces of humor in Hank, but it doesn't stand out drastically from the tone of the show. The same may very well be the case for Adlon.
