A Charlie Brown Christmas Preview

While I’m sure I’m not alone in being excited to see the new Disney special Prep and Landing when it premieres on ABC this week, I think it’s appropriate that the new potential-classic is being paired up with one of the staples of holiday TV specials. Preceding the premiere of Prep and Landing this Tuesday is A Charlie Brown Christmas. Who didn’t grow up watching this special each year?

In case your memory’s a bit rusty, below is ABC’s description for the story of a cynical little boy who struggles to get into the Christmas spirit.

“The ABC Television Network will celebrate the joy of the holidays with the classic animated Christmas-themed PEANUTS special, A Charlie Brown Christmas, created by late cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, airing TUESDAY, DECEMBER 1 (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET/PT; OAD on ABC: 12/6/01). In the digitally-remastered 1965 special, Charlie Brown complains about the overwhelming materialism that he sees everywhere during the Christmas season. Lucy suggests that he become director of the school Christmas pageant, and Charlie Brown accepts, but it proves to be a frustrating struggle. When an attempt to restore the proper spirit with a forlorn little fir Christmas tree fails, Charlie Brown needs Linus' help to learn what the real meaning of Christmas is.”

For those of you looking for a little more holiday spirit Peanuts-style, the following Tuesday (December 8th), at 8:00 p.m. ABC is airing The Charlie Brown Christmas Special as well as a series of Christmas-themed animated stories called “Charlie Brown Christmas Tales.” The series is based on Schulz’s work and features the beloved Peanuts characters, including Charlie Brown, Snoopie and the gang.
