Comedy Central To Roast Roseanne Barr This Summer

She probably has this coming. But then again, don't all of the Roastees of the Comedy Central Roasts? The network announced today that Roseanne Barr will be the next to receive the roast-treatment with one of their specials. The Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne is scheduled to air this August.

Following in the footsteps of (but not to be confused by) the Friars Club roasts, the Comedy Central Roasts typically feature various comedians and other celebrity-types as they offer a bit of ribbing toward one particular celebrity. Previous celebrities to be roasted by a dais of funny people are Charlie Sheen, Donald Trump, David Hasselhoff, Flavor-Flav and William Shatner. Roseanne is next up on the list, joining Joan Rivers and Pamela Anderson among the females set to be verbally shredded.

“Although Roseanne appears to be a demure, soft spoken woman eternally committed to the status quo, we believe under the surface is an explosive, trail-blazing cultural revolution. We are honored to Roast her,” said Kent Alterman, Head of Original Programming and Production, COMEDY CENTRAL. “Celebrating Roseanne’s unprecedented achievements in comedy and television will surely inspire us to make this Roast more reminiscent of the classic roasts, where the intimacy of friends jousting with each other came through.”

Um, yeah, I'm sure whoever is brought in to roast her will be able to find a few moments to joke about from Barr's career. They might consider starting the whole event with the National Anthem. The Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne is scheduled to tape in Los Angeles on Saturday, August 4, and will air on Comedy Central Sunday, August 12 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. We'll keep you posted on the updates for roast-master who has been added to the dais as the event gets closer.
