Emmy Noms Are In: 24 And Will and Grace Bag The Most Nominations

Well the nominations are in and it looks like ‘24’ and ‘Will and Grace’ came out with the most recognition this year. The change in the voting process may have played a factor in this, at least when it comes to ‘24’. ‘Will and Grace’ has already received more than it’s fair share of recognition over the last few years. The TNT miniseries ‘Into The West’ received a well-deserved 16 nominations.

‘Lost’ was left off the list for Outstanding Drama Series this year but I doubt the ‘Lost’ people are too upset as they did receive 9 nominations including one for Best Directing for the “Live Together, Die Alone” episode. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ had a stellar season and this was recognized with the 11 nominations the show received including numerous acting nominations for the supporting roles and guest roles in the show as well as a nod for Outstanding Drama Series.

‘Alias’ finished its final season this year and was only nominated for two awards (hairstyling and stunt coordination). ‘The Office’ received 5 nominations including one for Steve Carell in the Best Actor in a Comedy Series category.

Here are the nominations for the main awards (including my comments):

DRAMA SERIES

Grey's Anatomy - Totally Deserved

House - Another phenomenal show that deserves the recognition

The Sopranos - I’m in the minority here, I realize this but this show is totally overrated

24 - Cant say season 5 was better than season 4 but it was definitely a solid season that’s emmy worthy

The West Wing - Don’t watch, don’t care.

ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES

Peter Krause, Six Feet Under

Denis Leary, Rescue Me - Deserved – he should win this sooner or later

Christopher Meloni, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Martin Sheen, The West Wing

Kiefer Sutherland, 24 - Deserved – Sutherland has turned Jack Bauer into a modern day superhero (minus the powers)

ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES

Frances Conroy, Six Feet Under - I love her but I think she’s received enough recognition for the show

Geena Davis, Commander in Chief

Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Allison Janney, The West Wing

Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer - I haven’t seen much of ‘The Closer’ but all I hear are great things about Sedgwick’s performance

COMEDY SERIES

Arrested Development

Curb Your Enthusiasm

The Office - this one’s my pick for this category. It was a fantastic season and every episode was laugh-out-loud funny

Scrubs

Two and a Half Men the token traditional sitcom (I wish ‘How I Met Your Mother’ were in its place, personally)

ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES

Steve Carell, The Office - My pick for this category. Carell has fantastic timing and isn’t totally one dimensional

Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm

Kevin James, The King of Queens

Tony Shalhoub, Monk

Charlie Sheen, Two and a Half Men

ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES

Stockard Channing, Out of Practice - Never saw it but Channing is always brilliant

Jane Kaczmarek, Malcolm in the Middle

Lisa Kudrow, The Comeback

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, The New Adventures of Old Christine - I must be out of the loop because I’ve never even heard of this show

Debra Messing, Will & Grace - I’m totally over ‘Will and Grace’ and don’t think they need anymore awards
