Eureka's Salli Richardson Joins Roseanne Barr Pilot, Along With Greg Cromer

Two more have joined the cast of Roseanne Barr’s NBC comedy project Downwardly Mobile. Salli Richardson of Eureka and recurring Community guest Greg Cromer will come on board as one of the couples inhabiting the mobile home park managed by Roseanne herself.

Deadline reports that the pair will play Mr. and Mrs. Denby, a couple who have come to live in the trailer park after losing everything in a Ponzi scheme. The Mrs., played by Richardson, is unimpressed by her new surroundings, while Cromer’s affable character attempts to find his way back up from the bottom.

Already tapped for the pilot is Roseanne’s former TV husband John Goodman, who will play Roseanne’s friend Buzz – no, not her husband this time, what man would do that twice? Roseanne herself plays a self-titled character, Rosie, who manages the trailer park and serves as a mother figure to the many people who come to live there as a result of the struggling economy.

Salli Richardson is best known for her co-starring role on SyFy’s Eureka, but has guested all over the television spectrum. In addition to Community, Greg Cromer has popped up on The Middle, Happy Endings and Pretty Little Liars. This project would be a big move for him into a regular series role.

As for the project, it sounds like what Roseanne does best – down-to-earth blue collar comedy – but can she repeat the success of Roseanne? That show had heart and guts, a combination hard to come by these days. I have to say, the Roseanne Barr and John Goodman reunion could be one worth seeing.
