Fox Ready To Go Mental This Summer

The idea of a TV season has gone a little by the wayside over the years. Now we get a glut of reality programming from the networks during the summer, and some of cable’s best shows got their start during summer runs. Now Fox is trying to bring scripted shows to the summer audience with Mental.

Fox TV Studios produced the 13-episode drama, which was shot at Fox TeleColombia in Bogota on the cheap. Staring Chris Vance as a psychiatrist in Los Angeles alongside his conservative boss, played by Annabella Sciorra, the show was too enticing for Fox to resist giving a shot.

"One of our goals has been to get original scripted programming on our air during the summer, and they created a model that will allow us to do it,” Fox chairman Peter Liguori told The Hollywood Reporter.
