Despite what many considered to be a rocky first season, Showtime's House of Lies still managed to get renewed for a second, as well as nab an Emmy nomination for lead actor Don Cheadle. To be fair, his nod was even well-deserved; in fact, the entire ensemble always performed above and beyond the material. Many shows take some time to find their footing, so perhaps the rest of the show can rise to meet the quality of the cast come Season 2?

We'll have to wait unit the new year to find our for sure. In the meantime, Showtime has released a few teasers to promote the upcoming season, one that will apparently find Cheadle's Marty Kaan (and the 'Pod') still reeling from his consulting company's merger, as well as battling a new threat in the office. Plus, his son decides to stop living with his destructive father because, well, you can probably tell from the "Unspeakable Things" spot...

Oh, the typeface! I almost forgot about how the show incorporates a bunch of unnecessary stylistic trappings to distract the audience as much as possible from the quality performances taking place onscreen. The second spot, although titled "Marty Kaan," does a nice job of reintroducing the rest of the ensemble, or at least the other members of the Pod - Kristen Bell, Ben Schwartz and Josh Lawson - and their admiration for the lead character. Something tells me that Cheadle wasn't available for the promos. Maybe next time? Either way, Lawson is enjoyable (as usual) as the goofball who makes a mess out of everything.

The second season of House of Lies premieres Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 10:00 p.m. ET on Showtime. Created by Matthew Carnahan, it stars Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell, Ben Schwartz, Josh Lawson, Dawn Oliveri, Glynn Turman and Donis Leonard Jr.
