Lady Gaga has been in the news a lot lately. The “Born This Way” singer recently got engaged, and even more recently performed tracks from The Sound of Music during the 2015 Academy Awards (although many people have been more interested in what an Ohio news anchor called her music the next day). Now, it seems she'll try her hand at acting. This morning the next series in the American Horror Story franchise officially started to announce cast members, and wouldn’t you know, Lady Gaga has taken a role in the TV drama.

The American Horror Story franchise has often been fond of making casting announcements via Twitter, and that’s exactly what happened for Lady Gaga. The singer took to social media to announce that she is joining American Horror Story and that Season 5 will be subtitled Hotel.

The FX drama’s executive producer Ryan Murphy also confirmed Gaga will be a part of American Horror Story: Hotel. It's actually pretty amazing that casting is already underway for American Horror Story: Hotel, as Season 4, subtitled Freak Show, only ended its run a month ago. Typically, the AHS casting announcements don’t start rolling out until the spring, but I guess when you bank a big star like Lady Gaga, it’s pretty difficult to keep the news under wraps.

Gaga might have been the star of plenty of music videos, but she’s never had a big role on TV before. Luckily, she does have some acting experience, recently appearing in Machete Kills, and received a Razzie nomination for Worst Supporting Actress. I guess there’s nowhere to go from there than up! She also briefly appeared in Sin City: A Dame to Kill, so she does have some acting experience. We’ll just have to wait and see whether Lady Gaga’s role in American Horror Story: Hotel ends up being more sizable.

As usual, details on American Horror Story: Hotel are being kept under wraps. We do know that FX President John Landgraf has said he hopes the new season will follow pattern and be set in the present day. He’s also said we should expect Hotel to be a “radically reinvented” version of American Horror Story, as well. Additionally, Murphy has said that all seasons of the hit show are connected, which means we should keep an eye out for easter eggs when Season 5 airs.

Admittedly, that will be a long time. American Horror Story: Hotel won’t hit the schedule until October. We'll let you know as new actors and actresses are announced.
