MTV Documentary Sheds Light On Drop-Out Epidemic

In this day and age, it’s hard to get a decent job without a college degree. It’s probably nearly impossible to get one if you haven’t even finished high school. With more than a million American kids dropping out of high school each year, its safe to say that there are a lot of people in this country who are academically unprepared for the real world. In an effort to help teach this country’s youth about the importance of education, MTV has joined the “National Summit on America’s Silent Dropout Epidemic” with a documentary called ‘The Dropout Chronicles.’

‘The Dropout Chronicles,’ which is set to air this Wednesday night, will follow three high school students, each on the verge of dropping out of school. Sean, from Miami is like most teenagers in that he finds school boring. What keeps him going is the fact that if he makes it through high school, he’ll be the first male in his family to graduate. Glendy is from the Bronx and in addition to being held back a year, has a grueling commute to school each day. The third student involved in the documentary is Maxine. She’s from San Diego and thinks she’s just one exam away from her diploma. Only one of the three students will actually make it to graduation day. The other two will fall into the pool of kids who don’t finish high school.

MTV joins the First Lady, Laura Bush to help shed light on this epidemic, which is having some pretty seriously negative effects, no only on the lives of the drop-outs but also on the future of our nation’s society and economy.

‘The Dropout Chronicles’ will air on MTV on Wednesday, May 9th at 8:30 PM. If you’re busy watching the ‘Idol’ results show that night, check out the special sneak preview of ‘The Dropout Chronicles’ on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
