ABC’s musical nighttime soap Nashville has had some major music guest stars in its four season on the air. Pop and country music stars like Kelly Clarkson, Brad Paisley, Florida Georgia Line, Sara Evans and Christina Aguilera have made appearances on the show. Now, it looks like Nashville has gotten a true, heavy-hitting music legend to grace the small screen for them. Sir Elton John will soon be hitting the show before Season 4 is over.

According to TV Line, the award winning singer and songwriter will play himself on Nashville during the May 18 episode and perform a scene with Gunnar (Sam Palladio). John’s newest album, “Wonderful Crazy Night” was produced by Nashville’s former executive music producer, T-Bone Burnett, who’s married to the show’s creator, Callie Khouri. There’s no word yet on whether or not John will grace the show with a song during his appearance.

As many big music stars have during their time at the top, Elton John has dipped his toes into the acting waters before. His debut was in rock legends The Who’s movie Tommy in 1975 as The Pinball Wizard, and he’s had a few appearances since, or voice on work in shows and movies since then, mostly playing himself. He had small parts in The Nanny, Spice World and The Simpsons, all as himself. He narrated The Road to El Dorado in 2000, voiced a character in Bob the Builder: A Christmas to Remember, and, in 2014, played God in two of rock band Fall Out Boy’s videos.

So, now’s the part of the article where we speculate on how in the hell Gunnar is going to come into contact with the one and only Sir Elton John. Gunnar is an up and coming Nashville songwriter. It’s not totally unlikely that Elton John will have some interest in the artist writing for him at some point, but, seeing as how Gunnar is a country artist, that’s not the best possibility for the two to meet. That would more likely involve Gunnar and Scarlett (Clare Bowen). The two are currently performing together in a band, have cut their debut album for Rayna’s (Connie Britton) record label, Highway 65, and are now working on releasing the first single. It’s possible that their act will have an appearance as an opening act for a major artist, or end up attending an awards show which would put Gunnar in close enough proximity with John for them to end up actually having a brief conversation. Which will probably mostly consist of Gunnar trying really hard not to super-fan all over John during whatever time they have together.

Well, however Gunnar come into contact with Elton John it’s sure to be something to see for Nashville fans. John is, by far, the biggest star to have blessed the show with his presence, yet. His episode on the show will air Wednesday, May 18 at 10 p.m. EST.
