NBC To Only Air Debate In Florida

Our system of electing the Republican and Democratic candidates for president is completely broken. Instead of having one national primary day, asshole states like New Hampshire and Iowa feel they can waltz ahead of the pack, forcing candidates to spend way to much time campaigning there. In a desperate attempt to gain more clout and decision making power, Florida has decided to move its primary up a month and a half. As a result of this morally bankrupt move, NBC and Florida have banded together to hold and televise both a Republican and Democratic debate.

According to Variety, the two hour argument will be broadcast live on NBC in Florida and on lesser cable network MSNBC across the rest of the country. I think I speak for most people when I say, “that is bullshit!.” Most of the rest of the country goes to the polls one week after Florida. Why are these voters not deemed worthy of a big 4 network broadcast? The whole thing is just ridiculous.

Sadly, I realize that NBC is casting the debate off to MSNBC in most markets because they know Americans, as a whole, will not watch the primary, but that is still egregious. I’m all for corporations making fiscally responsible decisions; however, there comes a time when you need to put the interests of the nation ahead of the all-mighty dollar.
