NBC Charts Not-So-New Waters

Perhaps inspired by (and jealous of) the insane success of ABC’s ‘Lost,’ NBC has begun development on a new island drama. Reuters reported that the network, whose recent plunge in popularity was the center of some painfully self-deprecating jokes in Conan O’Brien’s Emmy monologue last Sunday, has ordered the script of ‘Isla Du Sol.’ The series, from ‘Empire’ creator Tom Wheeler, who will also write a modern adaptation of 80s hit ‘The A-Team’ to be aired on the new CW, tells the story of a young woman who, while fulfilling her aunt’s deathbed desire by traveling to a strange Brazilian hideaway, realizes a previously and darkly unknown past.

Thriving off the hits of other networks has been a recent trend for NBC. Summer ratings hit ‘America’s Got Talent’ looked a lot like a tastelessly talent-less version of ‘American Idol’ and ‘Treasure Hunters’ felt a lot like an ‘Amazing Race’ minus the appeal.

A mascot change is certainly in order. The (copy) cat would be a much better representation of the network than the now featherless and idea-less peacock.
