NBC Picks Up Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea

Loud, brash and always a spectacle, Chelsea Handler has fast become one of the more polarizing personalities on late night television. For years, she dated the CEO of Comcast, but even after the relationship ended, she remained a controversial mainstay on E!. Through all the ups and downs, she's amassed an army of young female supporters, which have led her to branch out, penning three books, two of which were New York Times Best Sellers. Now one of those hits has found its way to NBC, and the network is adapting it into a pilot.

According to Deadline, the book in question is Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea. It's an unflinching look at a twenty-something woman with very specific views on men and dating. Handler herself won't star, but she will executive produce and likely oversee creatively.

I'm not the world's biggest Chelsea Handler supporter, but the success of this project will all come down to casting. Will her fans buy someone else playing the talk show host or will the whole thing seem hollow and lack her sharp and pointed wit? We'll see in the next few months. If NBC finds the right woman for the job, look for this to be on next year's schedule. If they don't, Are You There Vodka? will never make it to last call.
