Things may not have worked out for The CW's Ringer, but Sarah Michelle Gellar fans are likely hoping that wasn't it for the Buffy star's TV comeback. On that front, there's good news - or good rumors - as Gellar reportedly has her eye on a comedy project that's in development, which would have her playing a wife and mother.

It sounds like this project is still in the early stages of development, as it doesn't have a title or a network yet, however TVLine reports that Gellar would star in the half-hour comedy, which is in development at 20th Century Fox TV and chronicles the hijinks parents get into when their kids aren't around.

The script for the comedy is written by Shepard Boucher, whose credits include TBS' comedy Men at Work. There's a Buffy connection there, as Men At Work just so happens to star Adam Busch, whom Buffy fans will undoubtedly recognize for playing Trio-leader Warren. TVLine points out that 20th Century Fox TV was the studio that gave us Buffy, so there are two connections to the actor's beloved series right there.

The untitled comedy is expected to begin the process of securing a major network in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I sort of love that Gellar's reportedly looking to shift over to comedy. We've seen her lighter side in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, not to mention Scooby-Doo, bust most of what she's known for is drama. Perhaps a shift to comedy is the right step forward for the actress, and I'm sure I'm not alone in being hopeful that this one successfully moves forward.
