TLC Orders Holiday Specials And Extra Episodes Of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo

Fans of The Learning Channel need to get prepared for more of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. While Honey Boo Boo ends its initial half-season run tonight, the cable network announced today that the Thompson family is signed on for additional episodes. On top of this, fans will be privy to three special holiday episodes, which will follow the rambunctious clan during Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Pint-sized pageant star Alana Thompson has only had her own reality show since August, and she’s already been the talk of the town for nearly as long as she's been on TV. The wild antics of Honey Boo Boo may be the focus of TLC’s show, but it also follows her extreme-eating family, and as such, has become briefly iconic in pop culture (Saturday Night Live even did a really funny parody during the show’s season premiere). The program itself does pretty well on the network, averaging 2.3 million viewers. Between the publicity the network is getting due to jokes about the show and the actual viewing numbers, it’s no surprise TLC would sign on for more episodes.

Until yesterday, I assumed no one I knew watched TLC’s pageant nonsense. It was nice living under a rock, but yesterday I made the mistake of actually asking people if they watched Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. According to my friend demographics, that show crushes, and I’m guessing the phenomenon will last for a while longer, especially if the “Holladay” specials catch on.

You can catch Alana and her family in the Here Comes Honey Boo Boo half-season finale on TLC tonight at 10 p.m. ET.
