Twitter Gets Its Own Show

It’s Memorial Day here in America, which means that most of your favorite restaurants are likely closed. You may have had to scrounge around for a place to buy those last minute accoutrements for the barbecue, and the only place to go for entertainment was the local multiplex. But the internet will never stop. To prove this it was announced today that Twitter, the mini blogging site, will be getting its own TV show.

The show is being created by Amy Ephron, sister of Nora, and will follow people as they online stalk celebrities through Twitter. We’re not sure exactly how Twitter will feature in the series, but the site has officially signed on to the project. The question will be how much useless Ashton Kutcher tweets there’ll be in comparison to irreverent and funny Michael Ian Black ones.

I’m also not certain how this translates into a news item per se. I know that some people believe that Twitter is not a fad, and is actually a new form of communication akin to the phone or smoke signals. Give it a few more years and I’m sure we’ll find Twitter’s appeal to be as fleeting as MySpace’s. Speaking of fads, wasn’t there once a Troll Doll cartoon series?
