Fans of AMC's The Walking Dead probably want to keep their schedules open the weekend before Comic-Con. The network announced that Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8 will be The Walking Dead Season 3 Preview Weekend. Essentially, it's just a marathon of the entire series but with a few extra bells and whistles. And they are impressive bells and whistles. The two day event begins each day at 11:30 a.m. ET, closing Sunday night with a one-hour Talking Dead live special at 9 p.m. followed by a black and white version of the The Walking Dead pilot at 10.
Throughout The Walking Dead Season 3 Preview Weekend, Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick will introduce the episodes from the set of Season 3 allowing the viewers to get a glimpse of the new sets as well as hear the cast members chime in on memorable moments. After introducing the shows and some behind the scenes footage from the first two seasons, Hardwick then hosts a Talking Dead live primetime special. The hour-long event will give fans a first look at the upcoming season which includes an entire scene and even more interviews with the cast. According to AMC there will also be a bunch of contests, interactive segments and...
at one point during the live show, Hardwick will also provide a special code to viewers, which they can use to enter The Walking Dead Watch to Win Sweepstakes. The winner will receive a trip to Atlanta and a "stagger on" role as a zombie on the hit show. The on-air event will be complemented by activities online at amctv.com, where fans can find more exclusive behind-the-scenes videos and participate in Fan Favorite polls, which cover such topics as Fan Favorite Weapon, Fan Favorite Walker, Fan Favorite Walker Kill and Fan Favorite Survivor. The Poll winners will be announced by Hardwick during the Talking Dead live event Sunday night.
While it's certainly nice to know that I can waste away the early July weekend by catching up with the entire two seasons of the zombie horror series (that's 19 episodes total) as well as sneak a peek at Season 3 and/or win some swag from Hardwick, it's the 'never-before-seen' black and white version of the first show that has me really excited. AMC created this special B&W episode of the series specifically for comic book fans as Robert Kirkman's series is done in that style. That's a rad way to close out the The Walking Dead preview and lead in to the biggest comic book convention in the world the following weekend.
Accompanying the announcement, AMC also released this photo from Season 3 and while it's not as exciting as Michonne wielding her sword, it's nice to see Rick back in the habit of shooting some zombies. Welcome to the Ricktatorship! I wonder what's up with the silencer?
So. Once again. The Walking Dead Season 3 Preview Weekend is July 7-8, starting at 11:30 a.m. ET each day with the Talking Dead live special at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday followed by the black and white The Walking Dead pilot at 10, all on AMC.
