Watch Adam Driver Whip Out A Lightsaber In Hilarious New SNL Promo

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been in theaters for nearly a month now, and it’s been smashing box office records ever since. The success comes as no real surprise – it was the first Star Wars film since 2005 and the first awesome Star Wars film since the 1980s. Still, one aspect of the film that plenty of us just can’t celebrate is the character of Kylo Ren. Luckily, actor Adam Driver seems to have the sense of humor that Kylo lacks, and the promo for his upcoming stint as host of Saturday Night Live is pretty hilarious...and features lightsabers! Check it out:
Activating a lightsaber in response to having the last fry stolen is one of the most reasonable things that anybody has ever done with a lightsaber. There are some things that even the darkest of Sith lords can’t condone, and fry stealing is surely one of them. SNL cast member Kate McKinnon may have brought her own lightsaber to the meal, but she’s lucky that Adam Driver is less murderous with it than Kylo Ren with his distinctive weapon.
Also, that lightsabers aren’t real.
Adam Driver is probably lucky on that as well. Considering what he did as Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens, he might have some angry cosplayers with lightsabers looking to have a few words with him. Sure, he’s just an actor, but Kylo Ren committed quite the major party foul in The Force Awakens.
Adam Driver’s upcoming appearance on SNL, however, looks like it will be anything but foul. The lightsaber bit of the promo may be the highlight, but Driver is channeling the over-the-top angst of Kylo Ren that has been hilariously lampooned all over the internet by everything from a pixelated video of Kylo Ren freaking out at everyday situations to the Emo Kylo Ren account on Twitter that has to be a highlight of any follower's timeline. Kylo Ren may have been the bad guy of The Force Awakens, but at least we have fan-generated emo clips and comments to warm the cockles of our hearts.
Pretty much anything featuring Star Wars is guaranteed to get some attention, and Adam Driver’s episode of SNL was likely to get solid ratings even without any promos to hint at some real humor. Hopefully, the lightsaber joke is only a taste of what is to come in Driver's first appearance as host of the show.
Tune in to NBC at 11:30 p.m. ET on January 16 to catch Adam Driver as host and Chris Stapleton as musical guest of Saturday Night Live. There may or may not be more lightsabers involved.
