The Announcement Trailer For TMNT: Mutants In Manhattan Shows Off Cel-Shaded Gameplay

Activision and Platinum Games revealed new gameplay footage for the upcoming 2016 release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan. The trailer reveals the cel-shaded gameplay in action, along with the four mutant heroes.

PC Gamer spotted the trailer since the game will be made available for PC, along with Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4. You can get a glimpse of the game in action with the minute and a half trailer below.

Originally, the gameplay trailer above leaked ahead of schedule on the official Xbox website by a few hours, giving gamers a look at the title before Activision even officially announced it. Before that the game's screenshots were leaked ahead of schedule on Pure Xbox. This instantly gave gamers a look at the cel-shaded graphics in an up close and personal manner. Various entries on the SteamDB app also showed that a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game was also being worked and frequently updated. And before that the game was rated by the ratings board ahead of all the other leaks.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan seemed to have the least relevant announcement in recent history thanks to all the leaks leading up to its actual announcement. By the time Activision got around to saying “Hey everybody, the game is coming!” most gamers were like “Yeah, we already knew that!”

Despite the leaks kind of dampening the excitement of the initial announcement, the gameplay trailer still manages to revel in enough nostalgia and gameplay goodness to keep many denizens in the gaming community and comic book scene excited. Platinum Games is bringing their trademark combo system and combat to the world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with an original story centered around Master Shredder and the Foot Clan by accomplished comic book writer Tom Waltz.

The comic book inspired art style with the black outlines, color-splashed palette and deep contrasts help give the game its own unique visual presentation. It's designed to reflect the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a way that a lot of fans remember from the 1980s and 1990s, not unlike the methods that Platinum Games used with the cel-shaded Legend of Korra to mimic the Nickelodeon cartoon or Transformers: Devastation to bring back the design style of the 1980's Transformers series.

The game will sport four-player cooperative play via online, allowing players to assume the roles of Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael and Leonardo. Each of them will have their iconic weapons and will sport fast-paced fighting and special maneuvers similar to other beat-'em-up titles from Platinum Games, such as Bayonetta, Vanquish and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan is due for release later in 2016 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PC. You can learn more about the game by hitting up the official website.
