Castle Miner started off as a cheap ripoff of Minecraft and Zombies. A few patches and plenty of YouTube videos later, the game is enjoying the success of more than one million digital sales as an Xbox Live Indie Game. It just goes to show you that you don't need publishers and marketing budgets to hit it big in the gaming industry.

Eurogamer is reporting that the developers, DigitalDNA Games, has counted more than one million sales since launching the game back on November 9th in 2011.

The game looks like a typical Minecraft ripoff with Xbox Live avatars instead of block-voxel Steve-characters. The trick is that the game infuses the block-building experience with lots of FPS-style action featuring modern-day weapons. Check it out in action below.

I think the constant goading from like every other YouTuber out there saying “Buy this game, BUY THIS GAME!” eventually paid off as like a viral marketing campaign, resulting a lot of people going online and buying the game.

I have to admit, after watching a couple of videos it did convince me that maybe the game was worth the small price of admission. It looks like it could be a ton of fun,
