If you're a long-time subscriber of EverQuest you might be pleased to know that you'll no longer need to shell out cash each month for the game, SOE has transitioned the game from pay-to-play to free-to-play for its 13th anniversary.
Dave Georgeson, director of development of the EverQuest franchise commented in the press release, saying...
“Through 18 successful expansions and countless other game updates, EverQuest has forged its place in history amongst the MMO and online game elite,”.... “With one of the most loyal player communities in the industry, we believe that after 13 years we need to provide them with a wide variety of ways to play the game on their terms. Players can now choose to play in a way that suits them best and continue to expand their game experience…until the next milestone birthday!”
The team has been working hard to also improve many aspects of the game, including updated maps, better zone path finding, improved navigation, new quests and brand new 13th anniversary events to keep the excitement alive.
The game originally launched back in 1999, offering gamers one of the first immersive, 3D MMO experiences out there. The game will still maintain paid options for those who want additional benefits and in-game advantages, however the cost of entry has been removed enabling anyone play for free.
