Evolve Will Get 3GB Patch On Launch Day

There's a ton of new content and fixes coming to Evolve on day one. With the game's launch set for release on Tuesday, there's a nice cache of fixes on the way and a few new surprises in store for day-one buyers... because there's a 3 gigabyte patch in tow.

Over on the Evolve website, Turtle Rock Studios dropped some info on the upcoming first-person shooter, explaining that first and foremost the game is being tweaked. Various balance issues are also being addressed that were brought up in during Evolve's beta. All of these issues will be handled in the day-one 3GB patch.

The Wraith was absolutely beast during the beta and it was a pleasure watching it just royally wreck hunters, while at the same time realizing that there wasn't any real way to stop the Wraith. According to design director at Turtle Rock Studios, Chris Ashton, the Wraith is getting some much needed nerfing in the day-one patch...

“In the Big Alpha, the Kraken had a 70% win ratio. We made a few key adjustments and during the Beta he was at 52%, which we are perfectly happy with. So we know we can make the right changes according to the data we get from these tests.“We introduced the Wraith in the Beta and saw that she needed similar adjustments. This was her first big playtest and she had a 71.1% win ratio. We made adjustments and now expect to launch the game with all three monsters very near the 50% mark. We couldn’t have done this without the communities help!!!”

In addition to the balance patching, the team will also be adjusting the performance of Evolve to run clean and pristine on as many PCs as possible.

Further optimizations will be made in the 3GB patch along with something a little special: new elite skins.

The new elite skins won't be DLC (thank goodness) but players can earn and unlock the skins just by playing the game, as noted in the news...

“After the Big Alpha, we wanted to rework the Elite skins for Hunters and Monsters based on feedback we got from the community. The results of those requests are right here in this patch.”

One of the other new changes (or day-one fixes) is adding support for the mobile companion app that released not too long ago.

This should add a bit of extra flair to the gaming experience for those who want to play the Evolve mobile app (even as a Bejeweled-style match-3 game) while on the go and then carry-over that progress into the main game on home consoles or PC. You'll just need to register with a 2K Games account to receive the benefits of casual play that affects your stats and progress in the main game.

Evolve, in my opinion, hasn't been the sort of game to win me over. I've actually found myself looking forward more to the passe duo of The Order 1886 and Bloodborne over Evolve. The two games are due for release soon and have actually improved in my eyes. In fact, after participating in the beta I've actually become less inclined to be excited about Evolve.

Nevertheless, there are some die-hard fans coming off Turtle Rock's success with Left 4 Dead and will latch onto Evolve with inextinguishable verve. For those of you who can't contain your excitement or anticipation, you can check the game out when it drops on February 10th for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
