Far Cry 4 Release Date And Setting Announced By Ubisoft, Check Out The First Images Now
Ubisoft revealed today that they're developing Far Cry 4. The first-person shooter will be launching later this year on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Far Cry 4 takes players to Kyrat, a region of the Himalayas. Kyrat is home to vicious animals as well as a self-appointed king. Presumably he's the blonde dude in the pink suit seen on the official website. A man confident enough to wear that suit is certainly confident enough to proclaim himself royalty.
Like previous Far Cry games, FC4 is an open-world game. Players can freely explore the environment on foot or with a variety of vehicles. The game world will offer several side activities in addition to the story-based missions.
We won't have to wait long for Far Cry 4. Ubisoft has set the release date for November 18th in the United States. The EMEA territories will receive the game on November 20th.
"Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans’ expectations,” said executive producer Dan Hay. "Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we’re eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months."
Far Cry 4 can be pre-ordered now through retailers like Gamestop, Amazon and Walmart. Pre-order customers will get an upgrade to the Limited Edition. The Limited Edition provides a Hurk's Redemption DLC pack complete with three missions. Hurk, if you recall, was the guy from Far Cry 3 who strapped explosives to monkeys. The DLC pack comes with a harpoon gun called "the Impaler" as well. That should make your underwater hunting a lot easier.
Ubisoft confirmed Far Cry 4's existence a year ago. The decision to make a sequel was driven by the great sales of Far Cry 3. FC3 managed to sell 4.5 million copies in its first three months, far exceeding Ubisoft's expectations.
Development of Far Cry 4 is centered at Ubisoft Montreal, who also took the lead on FC3. Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Shanghai, and Ubisoft Kiev are contributing to the project.
The first gameplay footage for Far Cry 4 will be released during E3. Ubisoft's E3 press conference will be held on Monday, June 9th. In the meantime, Ubisoft released the first images of the game through the game's website. Check them out below.
