Sega is bringing their arcade shooters The House of the Dead 3 and The House of Dead 4 to the PS3. High-def versions of both games will be released through PSN in the first half of 2012.

The HOTD games are two-player rail shooters. Players take on the role of special agents wiping out zombie threats. HOTD3 introduced a "rescue event" feature that challenged players to save each other from zombie attacks; if successful, they earned extra lives. That game also allowed players to "cancel" powerful attacks from bosses by shooting them in weak spots. HOTD4 utilizes both features.

Each game has been updated with HD graphics. They also support Trophies and PlayStation Move. Presumably you'll be able to play them with a normal gamepad if you're not a Move owner, though.

"I don’t think you need me to tell you that this will be the first time you’ll be able to play HOTD 4 in the comfort of your own home (far less embarrassing when you accidentally scream when a creature jumps out of nowhere, not that I’ve ever done that)," said Sega community manager Kate Burning on the company's blog. "We’ll have more HOTD 4 goodies as we get closer to release time, but for now, please work on honing your creature-killing skills in HOTD 3."

House of the Dead 3 will hit PSN on February 7th. HOTD 4's date hasn't been nailed down yet but the game's expected in the Spring.
