Kick-Ass 2 Game Kicking More Ass In May
The video game version of Kick-Ass 2 is set to arrive on consoles and PC next month, offering up classic beat-em-up gameplay with a bit of punk rock attitude. According to the game’s Facebook page, “consoles” includes the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
For the record, I don’t blame anyone who is scratching their head right now, checking the date of this post to make sure they didn’t step into a wormhole and waltz out into the past. The movie version of Kick-Ass 2 came out in August of 2013, after all, damn-near a full year ago. Usually movie tie-in games launch alongside their silver screen counterpart, if not a week or two early. Having a game based on a movie that didn’t exactly burn up the charts arrive a full nine months following its theater debut feels odd as hell. But I digress, because it’s happening, in May, and we’re just going to have to live with that fact.
Even more troubling is that fact that, other than a May launch window and the fact that this is going to be a beat-em-up, we don’t really know anything else about the game. Following is damn-near everything even remotely tied to the game in the original press release. Also, this next paragraph is rated PG-13 for brief use of strong language, so maybe skip ahead if you’ve got issues with naughty words. Of course, if that were the case, chances are you wouldn’t be caught anywhere near a Kick-Ass movie, much less a game.
“Kick-Ass 2 the game is a classic beat-em-up featuring brutal finishing moves and animations straight from the movie and comic book,” reads the statement. “Play with the main character of the movie and take on his arch-nemesis, ‘The Motherfucker.’”
Based on that description alone, we don’t know if Mr. Ass’ adventure will be set before or during the movie. I suppose that doesn’t really matter, actually, as the debut trailer makes it pretty clear that you will be doing one thing and one thing only in this particular title: Kicking ass.
It looks like the fighting engine is somewhat inspired by the Arkham series which, if done correctly, would be absolutely perfect for this type of game. If you’re looking for an over-the-top brawler, I suppose this is something you could keep your eye out for next month. We’ll update you as soon as we know more info on the gameplay, price or an actual date.
