After the bundle announcements this week with a vague Q2 date for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots there were some questions we had. Sony has graced the world with a few answers. Most of the info released today has to do with the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Online beta, but we did get a confirmed release date for MGS4. You’ll be fighting some deadly and beautiful ladies starting June 12.
This is important for a number of reasons, most of which any Playstation and Metal Gear fan or acquaintance already knows. But it also is a showing by Sony that they’re willing to release AAA titles during the normally dry summer season. Last year’s success of BioShock I’m sure had a little to do with convincing publishers the summer can be a good time for gaming.
The Metal Gear Online beta will start on April 21st, and run for about 2 weeks. As mentioned previously, you gain access by pre-ordering MGS4. That program starts in April, and uh…you get more than a beta access and a guaranteed copy of Guns of the Patriots. You’ll receive a Metal Gear Saga 2.0 DVD that recaps the story so far, some character bios and some international trailers for MGS4. Also in the package will be a download code that will instruct you on how to join the online beta.
So far everything is turning up Sony and the Playstation 3 in 2008.
