Downloading games it the newest craze sweeping through the video game industry. The Xbox 360, Wii, DS, and PS3 all let you do it and soon the PSP might be joining the party.

Develop reports that Sony briefed developers on a new PSP rental service via downloads. This briefing supposedly happened back at the GDC (Gaming Developers Conference) in March. This report matches up with a survey that was conducted by Sony a while back.

The survey - which polled users about their opinion of a price for the service, how long the subscription would run, and what types of games and content users would like to have access to - stated that the service would allow you to download everything right to the PSP. There have been rumors lately that Sony was going to re-release the PSP without the UMD disc drive. This omission would convert the portable gaming device into a download-only handheld and perhaps increase the popularity of the declining system
