There were whispers a week or so ago about a new Punisher game in development, and now it's been confirmed: Zen Studios is working on Punisher: No Mercy and it'll only appear on PlayStation 3.

In the announcement on PlayStation.Blog, Zen Studios Managing Director Zsolt Kigyossy revealed that No Mercy would be a first-person shooter powered by Unreal Engine 3. It will be released exclusively as a downloadable game on Playstation Network, making it the first shooter released solely on PSN.

Said Kigyossy: "Our main focus is to create an awesome online multiplayer experience with the style and grit from the Punisher’s world, complete with characters like Jigsaw, Bushwacker, Barracuda and even Silver Sable (been reading War Journal lately?…)."

Well, I salute any video game adaptation by a developer that seems to actually read comics. This appears to be the first shooter Zen Studios has ever done, though; their past projects include the very unviolent Rocky and Bullwinkle and Pinball FX, both for Xbox Live Arcade. No clue on how this game will turn out but hey, it's got Unreal Engine 3 so it'll at least be easy on the eyes.
