Rumor: Casual Star Wars MMO Planned By Sony

Star Wars: The Old Republic might not be the only Star Wars MMO in the works. Word on the street is, Sony Online Entertainment is looking to make an MMO set in the Clone Wars period.

Ten Ton Hammer (via Shacknews) claims SOE is teaming up with LucasArts to create a browser-based MMO. They suspect that it will use the Free Realms engine and be based primarily on the Clone Wars CGI film and TV show. In other words, it'd be a free-to-play casual MMO.

It seems plausible. SOE is, after all, the company that made the MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies. BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic seems to be targeting an older, "hardcore" audience so there's probably enough room for it and this Clone Wars project to co-exist.
