Thor: The Video Game Coming To Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, DS, Wii
Sega announced today that they'll be creating a video game based on Marvel super hero Thor. Thor: The Video Game will arrive in 2011 alongside the film.
In Thor, players control the titular character on a quest to save Asgard, capital city of the Norse Gods. He must fight his way through various worlds of Norse mythology filled with trolls, giants, and other monstrosities. He dispatches enemies by using his legendary hammer Mjölnir as well as elemental magic.
The gameplay experience varies a bit from platform to platform. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are third-person action games with a progression system so Thor can gain and upgrade abilities over time. The Wii version has the same general storyline as the other console iterations but also features Wiimote and Nunchuk support. Both the PSP and Wii version will have stylized, comic book visuals. The DS version, meanwhile, is a 2D sidescroller with a completely different narrative.
Though the timing of the game's release suggests it's based on the Thor film, there's no mention of it being an adaptation. This could be a repeat of the Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands situation, where the game is not actually connected to the film but it's being launched in close proximity to it in order to benefit from cross-promotion.
