Uncharted 4 Won't Have An Open Beta

If you had plans on getting in on the multiplayer beta for Uncharted 4, now would be a good time to do so. After December 13th the beta will close up shop for good and there won't be an open beta that proceeds it. Naughty Dog will start focusing on fixing up the bugs and glitches as they prep for the mid-March release of the game.

Gamespot is reporting that Naughty Dog's director of communications manager, Arne Meyer simply posted a reply to someone asking about any further open beta tests by saying they have “no plans”.

Now, of course, this doesn't mean that all tests are off the table entirely... it's completely possible they could change their minds and pop out another beta to satiate all the fans the world around. In fact, that's one of the biggest complaints about the beta: there's an ongoing contest and only America is included.

The details of the contest were rolled out over on the PlayStation blog, where gamers participating in the closed beta test for Uncharted 4 have an opportunity to win a digital copy of the full version of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End along with a limited edition collector's edition.

Quite naturally, a lot of gamers from Canada, Arizona (a state that's conveniently excluded), and Taiwan pop in to express their disappointment at not being able to participate in the contest. There is a lot of salt to go around as the questions arise as to why the contest couldn't include the rest of North America. Well, Arne Meyer tries to calm down the PlayStation denizens outside of the continental U.S., by saying...

I know we and the PlayStation team definitely try to get Canada as part of things like this whenever we can. There’s usually a lot of different factors involved. Can’t say I know all of the legal stuff behind it all. Hopefully next time.

On the upside, at least anyone who purchased the full version of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection has an opportunity to partake in the Uncharted 4 closed beta test.

The multiplayer event has been ongoing since last week, where Sony and Naughty Dog began testing, giving gamers various characters, modes and maps to explore in the competitive online feature for the upcoming third-person shooter.

Uncharted 4's multiplayer will include a number of different upgrades compared to Uncharted 3, and there will be new relics to pick up that work as power-ups, as well as new allies to utilize during a match and new character customization to help give each player a little bit of their own distinct look and feel during a round.

As for the contest... you can participate right now up until the end of the beta, which is December 13th. Simply follow Naughty Dog on Twitter or Facebook. Grab a cool photo during the Uncharted 4 beta and share the photo with them using the hashtag “Uncharted101ContestEntry” and sharing it via the PS4's share button. Once you do that you're entered and eligible to be one of the 50 individuals to walk away with a free digital copy of Uncharted 4 when it launches.

In the meantime, enjoy the multiplayer closed beta while it lasts because it ends on December 13th.
