As one of the biggest releases for early 2012, Mass Effect 3 had to make an appearance at the Spike VGAs. BioWare has released a trailer that brings back an old "friend" from the first Mass Effect.

In ME1, players could wander the surface of planets in a heavily armored rover. It was a cool enough feature but was hampered by one thing: Thresher Maws. Thresher Maws were giant worms intent on making your life a living hell. I spent most of the game riding along mountainsides so as to avoid their usual hunting grounds.

In this trailer, though, Thresher Maws actually help Shepard. He and his squad are being attacked by a giant Reaper when suddenly a Thresher surfaces and tackles the Reaper. The trailer ends before we get to see who wins that particular battle.

ME3 will be released in March. The demo, due in January, will be unlocked early for Battlefield 3 owners.
