Other Ocean finally set out the ground plans for the official release date on their upcoming, side-scrolling, platform-based, survival game, War of the Worlds. The unique new take on the classic H.G. Wells novel is scheduled to release on October 26th for the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

The news comes courtesy of XBLA Fans who spotted the announcement on the official War of the Worlds Facebook Page. This follows close on the heels of the latest developer diary featuring the tripod invaders.

The game itself puts players in the shoes of a man desperately trying to survive as the invasion of the aliens gets into full swing in downtown London. Unlike other games where players are given an assault rifle or a plasma gun and go around blasting down every single alien in sight, War of the Worlds takes a different approach by encouraging players to run and survive. Besides, in this game one shot from the space-age laser weapons and you die instantly.
