Finally, Slumdog Millionaire has found a victory it can't replicate at the Oscars! The unstoppable award-winning machine took home another award yesterday, winning the best contemporary costume design from the Costume Designers Guild. But Oscar lumps 'em all together in one category, and given that Slumdog didn't make the cut, it'll finally give someone else a chance to win come Sunday.
That winner will probably be The Duchess, which took home best period costume design at last night's guild awards. Variety notes that The Dark Knight also took home a mention, for fantasy film, but given that Bat and company also aren't nominated at the Oscars, it's no threat to the Keira Knightley corset drama.
The colorful costumes in Slumdog really were something, and it's a shame they won't even be eligible for the big awards. But then again, for God's sake, Slumdog needs to lose somewhere. Take your costume guild award and let someone else have a shot.
