I'm not sure when the whole spelling bee thing became cool, but I wish we could all just stop it. Spelling bees are not interesting. I have better things to do than sit and watch someone else's kid give the equivalent of a dictionary reading. Start doing them something really impressive, let's have some pint-sized poetry readings, or send them to a science fair. Is there any bigger waste of your kids time than obsessive spelling? I don't think so.
