American Hustle Crash Course: Watch This 80-Minute David O. Russell Interview
Normally, we’d have to wait until a DVD reached shelves before we could absorb a feature-length interview from a director providing insight into his latest work. Which makes this 80-minute conversation between American Hustle director David O. Russell and the WGA feel extra special. The loquacious filmmaker covers the depth of his career as a writer and director, touching on Silver Linings Playbook, The Fighter, Hustle, his ensemble work and so much more. With the movie reaching select theaters on Friday, Dec. 13 (and expanding the following week), we thought you guys might want to give this lengthy chat a listen. American Hustle has been ticking off a few important boxes on its way to theaters. The American Film Institute just placed it on their Top 10 film list for 2013. Earlier this month, the New York Film Critics Circle named it the best picture of the year. Personally, I can’t say I agree with them, but interest level and awareness for Russell’s latest seem to be at an all-time high at the moment. Now it’s time for the studio to let people in so they can judge for themselves.
While you wait just a few more days, here are the latest clips we’ve unearthed for American Hustle, which tells the sort-of-true story of the ABSCAM scandal on 1978, when the FBI (personified by Bradley Cooper) blackmailed a pair of con artists (Christian Bale, Amy Adams) to help them bring down a gaggle of crooked politicians (including a dirty Jersey mayor played by Jeremy Renner).
