Barbarella Derailed By Love

By Josh Tyler: 2007-10-18 02:04:28
Barbarella Derailed By Love It looks like Robert Rodriguez’s remake of Barbarella is in trouble. Universal is backing out and pulling their funding. The problem? They hate Rose McGowan.

The NY Observer says that despite their instance that he find someone else, Rodriguez won’t drop McGowan. He started the film with the intention of casting her in the title role once made by Jane Fonda, but no one thinks Rose is big enough to carry the movie. Rodriguez however isn’t listening. The problem it seems, may be that… well… he’s engaged to her.

Or you know what, maybe he really believes she’s perfect. Heck, I believe she’s perfect. Come on people, see Planet Terror already. Rose was made for this part. I can’t imagine anyone pulling it off. Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Garner aren’t the only women available to be cast in action movies.

Robert however says Rose’s casting has absolutely nothing to do with it and that Universal was blown away by her screentest. He insists it’s a budget issue. Universal wants to pay $60 million and he thinks he needs $82. So, for whatever reason, this may mean the movie is dead in the water. It’s a shame, because McGowan believes that if they made it: “Oh, we’d rock that shit so hard.” They so would.
