Beyonce Channels Etta James

By Rafe Telsch: 2008-01-27 22:20:51
Beyonce Channels Etta James I’m not opposed to musical artists attempting to jump over to acting, but I think they should try to push themselves to develop just like any other actor. That doesn’t seem to be the case for Beyonce Knowles. The musician-turned-actor has only had a handful of roles in the past seven years, but the bulk of them continue to play on her musical talent (or cast her as a comedic spy love interest).

That trend continues with the news that Beyonce is slated to play renowned singer Etta James in Cadillac Records, a movie about musical legends of the 1950s. The news comes from Cedric the Entertainer, who also has a part in the movie, as reported by Black Film.com.

While I’d prefer to see Beyonce stretch herself a bit more on the acting side, I have to admit I think she’s one of the better picks to play the legendary singer, especially if there is a need for her musical ability on the set. Other cast members include Adrien Brody (as founder of Chess records, Leonard Chess) and Jeffrey Wright (as Muddy Waters), as well as Emmanuelle Chriqui, Columbus Short, and Tammy Blanchard.
