Big Hero 6 Sequel Talk Confirmed, Get The Latest

It was only a couple weeks ago that Big Hero 6 co-director Chris Williams told us that a sequel was only going to happen if a great story presented itself. That statement is not only common sense, it's also the standard Disney corporate line when asked about a sequel to a wildly successful, Academy Award winning hit. But if you were surprised by today's announcement that Frozen 2 is definitely coming our way, then get ready to be surprised by rumors that Big Hero 6 is starting to warm up its hard drive for more action. Big Hero 6 actor Genesis Rodriguez says there's "rumblings of something else" in the works.

Screen Rant caught up with actress Genesis Rodriguez - the voice behind the character Honey Lemon. With not only the home video release of Big Hero 6, but also its Best Animated Feature win at the Oscars a couple weeks ago, now's as good a time as any to renew talks about the prospect of Baymax's return – and that’s something that, according to Rodriguez, is not lost on the top Disney brass. She explained,

There’s rumblings of something else happening. I mean yesterday I just saw that it’s the third most grossing Disney animated feature, so this is huge for them. I doubt that they wouldn’t want to do another one. It was a huge success.

With Frozen 2 in the queue, The Avengers: Age Of Ultron set to rake in tons of Tony Stark-like cash, and Star Wars spin-offs taking shape and form, Disney's business model can be summed up with an old adage: shut up and play the hits. While its announcement was absent from today's big shareholder's event, a Big Hero 6 sequel, much like the Tron sequel we've been hearing rumblings about, could be something that's going to be announced somewhere further down the line. Perhaps we can expect something ridiculously huge at the bi-annual D23 Expo this summer.

As for what the next chapter of Hiro and Baymax's adventures could be about, we're still at the same level of detail as we were when we first talked about the prospect back when the first movie was released. In all honesty, the story to Big Hero 6's continuation would seem a much easier scenario to game out than a sequel to Frozen, especially considering Big Hero 6 has a whole comic run to base itself off of. So obviously, if Frozen is a fast track priority for Disney's top minds, then you can bet they're going to want to complete the one-two sequel punch with Big Hero 6 2.

Genesis Rodriguez can be seen next in Run All Night, which is in early showings at this moment. Both Big Hero 6 and Frozen are both available on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Tangled still continues to be an underrated masterpiece, and still has no sequel plans in the works.
