Chow Yun-Fat Joins Dragonball Z

By Josh Tyler: 2007-12-19 05:30:36
Chow Yun-Fat Joins Dragonball Z Chow Yun-Fat in Dragonball Z. That’s now what you can expect to see on the posters, once the Dragonzball Z movie finally gets some. HR says the legendary martial arts star has signed on to star in Fox’s live-action adaptation of the popular, but ultimately incredibly awful, anime series.

He’s been tapped to play a character named Master Roshi. I have standards (low ones, but standards still), so I don’t watch Dragonball Z and thus have no idea who that is. From what I can tell, he’s the bald guy pictured to your right. But the movie is going to mostly be about a bunch of wild-haired characters battling over balls, and Chow is joining a cast already composed of Emmy Rossum, Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, and Jamie Chung.

Though perhaps they’re leaving Dragonball’s trademark wacky, over-the-top anime hair in the cartoon. Pics from the set have already started popping up online. I’ve dropped a couple of them below, but you can see them all in high-res right here. That’s Justin Chatwin in particular, and as you can see his hair is decidedly... average. Metrosexual perhaps, but hardly anime crazy. Insane hair was really about the only reason I had to be interested in this movie. Now I’m left with… er… no… nothing.

THis is Great NEws!!!! Chow yun fat as Master Roshi. Chow Yun fat is freakin' alwsome. That's going to be so cool seeing Chow Yun fat as Master Roshi, beating up Piccolo. This is going to bring fire to the casting. I can't wait to see Dragonball now! Finally the director is bringing something to the table. Oh yeah! Justin Chatwin is a great Goku not counting Brandon Lee, but they need to put him in Goku's trade mark outfit. Im glad to see them use Justin's real hair and nothing fake, because this movie needs to be real as possible like Transformers was!

  1. Joel Says:

Lets all have a open mind like this guy because its not gonna be dragonball as we know it.

ok.i am one of the biggest and most knowlegable dbz fans and i am not expecting this movie to do it justice.but i will watch it and support it as all dbz fans should; no matter if they cast the wrong actors to play the characters.its hollywood.look at what they did with street fighter or the joel schumacher directed batman, total injustices. The only thing fans can do is hope for the best.Oh yeah, and why are the people that write these articles "up to snuff" as they say.read the manga or watch the series.dont write about something you dont know.

  1. Says:

i think they just need to get all japanese actors not that chow yun-fat isnt cool but the guy who plays sonny chiba jr. would be a better person for master roshi.

  1. jeremb Says:

Chow Yun Fat joining in isn't making that much of a deal except to his hard-line devoters

As it turns out, the Chinese aren't all that hyped up about it, and as for the Japanese, they're staging an all out boycott against this movie all the same

  1. pinkle Says:

While in Hong Kong, Kageyama Hironobu himself sorely criticized Chow Yunfat for being a bad Kamesennin
