The last time that screenwriter Chris Sparling had a script made into a feature film, the result was Buried, the Ryan Reynolds-starring thriller that took place entirely in box buried six feet below the earth. The movie was a hit at the Sundance Film Festival, and the folks in Hollywood immediately decided that they wanted to be in the Chris Sparling business. The result of that want was the production of ATM, another closed-spaced thriller, only instead of  featuring a man buried alive, this one has three friends being terrorized while visiting an automatic teller machine.

Check out the first trailer for the film below.

I must say that I am kind of underwhelmed by this. Buried worked because of intense atmosphere and a fear that almost all of us share: being buried alive. While it would be terrible to be terrorized by a guy when you're with your friends at an ATM, it's not something that we have nightmares about. Perhaps the full film will be more effective, but this trailer isn't really doing it for me.

ATM stars Alice Eve (The Raven), Josh Peck (The Wackness) and Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker and is directed by David Brooks, who is making his feature debut. IFC is distributing the movie, which will be released on March 2nd before opening in theaters on April 6th.
