Get The First Look From The Conjuring 2

Summertime is usually a period when blockbuster action movies, superheroes, and sci-fi thrillers dominate the box office. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for some good old-fashioned horror to be thrown into the mix. The Conjuring proved to be a critical and commercial success when it terrified audiences in 2013, and the sequel looks primed to do the very same thing this coming summer. While the film has generally been kept under wraps throughout it’s production, a new image from the horror sequel has finally been released. Check it out below.

That’s an official photo from The Conjuring 2 that was released on Twitter earlier this weekend. Even from this first image of the upcoming horror film, it’s patently obvious that director James Wan is sticking to the style and tone that made the first film so horrifying. The image shows Janet Hodgeson (Madison Wolfe) lying on the floor of her bedroom amid a furniture and clothing that appears to have been thrown around by someone – or something. She appears to gaze at something above her, completely terrified and mystified at the same time. The wall behind her appears to be covered in crosses; whether this is a means of warding off spirits, or merely an indication of the character’s strong religious convictions remains to be seen, but it more than adds to the overall creep factor of the scene.

Some of the best scenes from the original Conjuring were the ones that involved the young Perron girls struggling to cope with the supernatural occurrences taking place in their bedroom at night. If we’re going to be getting more of that, then upcoming horror sequel shouldn’t disappoint. Check out the clip below to get a better sense of how James Wan constructs this sort of terrifying and haunting scene.

Similar to the original Conjuring, The Conjuring 2 will center upon the real life case of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, respectively) as they try to help a family being tormented by a supernatural presence in their home. The Conjuring 2 will move the action to Enfield, England and focus on a new case in which paranormal phenomena have begun to plague the life of Peggy Hodgeson (Frances O’Connor) and her four daughters. Like the original film, this story is based upon a true, highly documented paranormal activity case that took place in the 1970s.

While this image shows immense promise, it has only whetted our appetite for the horror that’s still to come. The Conjuring 2 will arrive in theaters on June 10, 2016.
